Volunteers have been honoured for their outstanding service to the local community at the 24th annual Barnet Civic Awards.
The ceremony, which took place at Hendon Town Hall last night (March 20), recognised individuals and organisations for their contributions to fundraising, healthcare support, tackling poverty and other forms of service to improve the quality of life in their local community.

John Hooton has announced his departure after eight years as Chief Executive of Barnet Council and will leave towards the end of June.
Subject to the council’s governance processes, Deputy Chief Executive Cath Shaw will become Acting Chief Executive on John’s departure, pending permanent recruitment to the post.

Barnet Council has announced plans to replace cladding on nearly 600 low-rise houses in its borough, in a multi-million-pound scheme that it believes will be the first of its kind in the country.
Safety issues with the cladding on over 580 terraced homes came to the attention of Barnet Council following a serious house fire in one of the properties in the summer of 2023.
