During the pandemic we saw a rise in residents wanting to access more services online with 70% of residents choosing to use online tools to resolve their queries rather than call. This resulted in council services having to consider how we can support all residents better remotely and inclusively.

London’s Deputy Mayor Sophie Linden visited Barnet Council’s offices for an update on the council’s pioneering pilot scheme to tackle domestic abuse in the borough, along with its partners at the neighbouring councils of Brent and Enfield.

Called the ‘Culturally Integrated Family Approach’ (CIFA), the wide-reaching scheme provides tailored services that recognise differences in cultures and ethnicities to improve the support available to those experiencing domestic abuse.

Barnet Council yesterday (31 May) launched a bold new strategy to enable children and young people to influence decisions in the council. The participation strategy, called My Say Matters, was unveiled by young people at a special event at Hendon Town Hall.

Barnet Council’s Cabinet approved plans (3 March) to introduce a food waste collection service to all households across the borough by the end of March 2026.

The service is already being offered to schools and businesses in Barnet.

Barnet Council’s Damage to Highways scheme has saved the council over £1million since its launch in 2020, allowing the council to recoup the cost of repairing damage to pavements caused by building works.

Originally launched as a pilot scheme in four wards back in September 2020, the Damage to Highways scheme was expanded to cover the entire borough in July 2023.

Eleven of Barnet’s most inspiring women and girls have been recognised in a council-backed awards programme at Hendon Town Hall, Thursday, 6 March 2025.

For the second year running the awards were given out for outstanding contributions and accomplishments in the fields of business, sport, environment, and community and culture.

Brent Cross Town, our new neighbourhood being delivered in partnership with Related Argent, has welcomed its first ever residents, with social housing amongst the first to be completed.

The result of yesterday’s by-election in the Finchley Church End ward was declared last night (Thursday 6 March) at Barnet Council Headquarters, in Colindale. 

The seat was won by Josh Mastin-Lee, Conservative Party Candidate.
