A growing borough

This theme relates to our delivery of housing, and builds upon the themes of the existing Housing Strategy 2019-24.
As people lead longer and healthier lives, and the borough continues to be a desirable place for younger families to live, we must ensure that there is appropriate housing.
We are working towards a target of building 46,000 new homes by 2036.
It is important that new housing developments are attractive to all generations, including older people who wish to live independently in the community for as long as possible.
Our objectives for a growing borough
Increase the supply of housing to meet local needs
Deliver most new homes in areas with better transport connections, such as in our town centres.
Deliver more homes that people can afford
Ensure direct delivery of new affordable homes on council land and through our planning system.
Support our growing older population
Engage with the market and support it to meet the needs of older people, including directly delivering new specialist housing that will enable people to live as independently as possible.
Deliver homes on public sector land
Work with our public-sector partners to deliver new homes on public sector land.
