How the funding can be used
The funding is available for a wide variety of projects to develop the infrastructure for the community and residents including:
- Flood defences
- Sporting and recreation facilities
- Parks and open spaces
- Community events
Example of successful grant funding include:
Greening the Vale:
Turning the Vale into a pollinator corridor - enhancing the biodiversity of the 4 grassy islands along the Vale, through the introduction of a range of flowers which will attract a greater variety of insects and wildlife; repairing the fence that runs along the perimeter. The aim is to turn a relatively unused area of grass monoculture into a small haven for bees and other forms of wildlife, while giving residents something attractive to look at and walk through. (It is the first phase of a 2-year project which will hopefully see wildflowers and perennials planted along the grassy islands.
How to request funding
As the local community, you can consult your Ward Councillor to submit ideas and priorities of how you would like NCIL spent in your area. A Member may bring an application on behalf of a Community Group to the relevant Area Committee (North, East or West) which may result in an NCIL Community Grant being awarded.
