Work is set to begin next week on the £3 million reconstruction of Hampden Way in East Barnet representing the largest investment ever in a single road by Barnet Council.

The project forms part of the £97m Barnet Road and Pavement’s Investment Programme and is expected to take between nine and ten months to complete.

Commencing on 29 July the works will be undertaken by Tarmac Kier Joint Venture (TKJV) and will see contractors and utility companies work together to reconstruct, upgrade and rebuild the carriageway and all apparatus beneath it where required.

As well as a full road reconstruction, the council will also be installing a new drainage system, reducing the risk of flooding in the future caused by surface water run-off.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet member for Environment and Climate Change, said:

"The project will lead to the long term improvement of Hampden Way for all residents and businesses.

“This £3m investment is a part of our commitment to fixing roads, pavements and other local infrastructure and ensuring the safety and convenience of our community.

“We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation during the construction period.”

To minimise disruption the reconstruction works will be split into 5 phases, meaning the road will be closed in sections rather than needing to implement a full road closure. The first phase will see Hampden Way closed from 2 Hampden Way to 39 Hampden Way.
