The Barnet Safeguarding Children Partnership is a statutory body which was set up as a requirement of the Children Act 2004. Its purpose is to monitor and oversee local arrangements to ensure agencies work together effectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. All of the key services working with children and families are represented including the Local Authority Children's Service, health, the police, probation and the voluntary sector. Membership also includes community representatives and the Barnet Youth Shield, a young people's safeguarding group. There is a remit to ensure that multi-agency practice is informed by learning from review and that everyone working with children and families has access to appropriate Child Protection training and support.

The Partnership is also responsible for statutory functions in relation to child death overview. The Partnership is required to communicate its work to professionals and the wider public to raise awareness of risk, child abuse and neglect across all sections of the community and to promote partnership and participation in safeguarding children in Barnet. The Partnership does not provide direct services, but information about its work, or training issues, is available from the number above.
