About Barnet Youth Board
Youth Board meets monthly – a mix of online and in person meetings at council offices. It is the place where council officers present strategies and policies to get feedback and ideas from young people.
In 2022/23 Youth Board contributed to work on healthy eating, sustainability/environment/climate change, safeguarding, vaping, mental health services, equalities/diversity/inclusion and the development of the Children and Young Peoples Plan.
Youth Board is chaired by our two Barnet Youth Ambassadors who are elected by children and young people in Barnet.
Being a member of Youth Board will give you the opportunity to:
- Represent the voice of young people and make sure they are listened to by adult decision makers
- Advise policymakers by providing guidance from the perspective of young people, their peers and community
- Develop links with other young people who may have similar concerns or interests
- Gain confidence and new skills for example in public speaking, influencing and persuading, listening to different points of view
- Learning about how the council works behind the scenes and being involved in projects at the very beginning as well as shaping the final product
What young people say
“Barnet Youth Board is a really simple way of making sure that your opinion is heard and influences the future of Barnet. It’s been a privilege to meet with different organisations and hear the opinions of young people who genuinely want to make an impact, like me! And I would encourage anyone to join.”
“I believe that Barnet Youth Board is a great opportunity to do something positive for our Borough and you should join… you get the chance to meet new interesting people and projects which you can be part off. Whilst having many positives such as having an amazing CV.” Members of Barnet Youth Board
