Educational psychology

Get help for a wide range of issues, usually relating to difficulties experienced by children and young people. These include:

•  learning
•  relationships
•  behaviour
•  communication

Educational psychologists can help with individual children, groups of children or staff, and can support schools in meeting children's needs more effectively by, for example, providing training for school staff or helping develop the school's Special Education Needs (SEN) or behaviour  policy.

Educational psychologists also help schools to work collaboratively with a range of outside agencies on issues prioritised by the school.

How to get help for your child

Every Barnet school has an allocation of visits from their link educational psychologists. The Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo) in the school liaises closely with the link educational psychologist to plan their work for the year.

Parents who have concerns about their child’s learning should, in the first instance, discuss these with the Class teacher/Form Tutor and possibly also the SENCo to agree a course of action. If the child attends an independent school, it is best to contact the Educational Psychology Team directly for advice by emailing educationalpsychology@barnet.gov.uk
