Marvellous Makers: Summer Reading Challenge 2024

In collaboration with The Reading Agency and Create, Barnet Libraries are excited to announce the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge: Marvellous Makers!
This year’s challenge will fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.
The Summer Reading Challenge aims to prevent the "summer dip" learning loss many children experience over the holidays when they aren't in school. With libraries' support, it provides a free, fun way to keep young minds active. In 2023, over 685,000 children across the UK participated.
Marvellous Makers challenge details
From July to September, children who sign up for ‘Marvellous Makers’ can discover amazing stories and explore their creativity by joining in with fun activities at the library.
Children aged 4 to 12 can join in the fun at any Barnet library from Saturday 6 July and throughout the summer holidays. Pop in to any Barnet library and complete a short form. Children will receive a Marvellous Makers folder and their reading adventure begins!
Once they are signed up, children need to read 6 books from the library to complete the challenge. It can be any books they like - chapter books, comics or even non-fiction information books.
They can also read eBooks on our Libby app or listen to eAudiobooks on our BorrowBox app.
During staffed opening times at the library, children can collect stickers along their reading journey. When they complete the challenge, they will receive a special personalised certificate and medal.
They can enhance the experience by visiting The Reading Agency's website for online activities such as games, quizzes and author chats.
