Investing in our people and communities
- Our Borough of Sanctuary award in 2024 recognises our ambition to provide a welcoming and safe place for all sanctuary-seekers
- We developed our Towards a Fairer Barnet roadmap 2024-30, with an action plan to address inequalities
- Our Children’s Services were rated as ‘good’ overall by Ofsted and ‘outstanding’ for the progress made by children in care
- We launched a new autism hub to support children and young people, in partnership with Resources for Autism
- Barnet ranks in the top 20% nationally for school performance and, on some measures, in the top 5%
- Outcomes for vulnerable young people are higher in Barnet than respective national groups and we are one of just a handful of local authorities to deliver 100% of Education, Health and Care Plans within the legal time limit of 20 weeks
- Our Adult Social Care service was rated as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission, with inspectors highlighting the council’s ‘responsive and person-centred support’ and our ‘person-centred social work practice’
- Following the publication of Our Plan for Adult Social Care 2024-29, we have started to deliver on our four ‘pillars’ of prevention, co-production, equality, choice and control
- Our new ‘financial calculator’ has helped around 16,000 people identify almost £10million of benefits they are eligible for but were not claiming while our Money Worries? campaign is pointing residents most in need to the financial support they may be entitled to
- We launched our Money Adviser Network partnership with the Money and Pensions Service to help residents most in need to get free, confidential and personalised debt advice from debt management experts
- Our new mental health and wellbeing strategy and charter is helping to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people
- We have an extensive programme of activities in two of our libraries to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of residents who are socially isolated or living with dementia, thanks to a £30k award from Arts Council England.
