Safe Havens

Barnet is one of the safest boroughs in London – and we want to keep it that way. We want to ensure that Barnet remains a safe place for residents to live and work.
Our vision is for Barnet to be a borough where everyone can live free of all forms of violence against women and girls. 

About Safe Havens 

Safe Havens are practical ways businesses around the borough provide temporary refuge to people who need help when out and about in the evening. They are primarily aimed at women and girls to access support if feeling intimidated, threatened, harassed or unwell.

Safe Havens are free and offer a confidential, personal, and safe space.

We are piloting Safe Havens in North Finchley. 

Look out for local businesses with a Safe Haven sticker in their windows that looks like the below image:

What is a Safe Haven, and how can they help?

Safe Havens are public premises such as shops, cafes, pubs, libraries, and other places of interest. Safe Havens will welcome anyone needing help and offer a safe place until you’re ready to leave. 

What do Safe Havens do?

Businesses might help call someone - parents, a friend, or, if the situation is dangerous, the police. 

They might provide helpful information, like how to get to the nearest bus stop, which bus to take home, and the confidence to continue your journey safely.
