Housing benefit suspensions
Skip to:
We may suspend your housing benefit if:
- you or a member of your household have had a change in circumstances, or;
- we think there may have been a change in circumstances that you have not told us about.
We will send you a letter that will explain the reason we have suspended your housing benefit, and the date from which the suspension is effective.
If you disagree with this decision
If you think this decision is wrong and you want us to reconsider it, the suspension letter will tell you what you need to do and what evidence you need to provide to us.
You will have one calendar month from the date on our suspension letter to provide us with the relevant evidence.
If you need more time to provide the information we have asked for, contact us about your housing benefit and we may consider giving you extra time.
What we will do in response
Once we have the information and evidence you have provided to us, we will write to you to tell you the new amount of your housing benefit payment, or to tell you your housing benefit payment is staying the same.
If we haven’t heard from you after one calendar month from the date of your suspension letter, we’ll stop your housing benefit payments.
